چکیده

This paper shows that using yields may not be informative of the relationship between farm size and productivity in context small-scale farming. occurs because, addition to productivity, pick up size-dependent market distortions decreasing returns scale. As a result, positive land turn negative when yields. We illustrate empirical relevance this issue with microdata from Uganda show similar findings for Peru, Tanzania, Bangladesh. In addition, we dispersion both measures across farms is so large it renders an ineffective indicator policy targeting. Our stress need revisit evidence on size-productivity its implications.
